Bro. Buddy Johnson was born and raised close by in Kyle, Texas, growing up in the First Baptist Church of Kyle.  It was there that Bro. Buddy accepted Christ as his personal Lord and Savior and later began to sense God’s call to the ministry.  He was Licensed and Ordained to the Gospel Ministry in 1984 by the First Baptist Church of Kyle, Texas. His first ministry opportunity also came at First Baptist Church Kyle, where he served as Minister of Youth from 1983 to 1985.

He is a graduate of Jack C. Hays High School and received his Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts and Communication at Southwest Texas State University (Texas State) in San Marcos, Texas. Upon completion of his undergraduate work, Bro. Buddy continued his education and ministry pursuits at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas, where he received his Masters of Divinity in Theology.

Following his seminary training, Bro. Buddy entered the pastoral ministry. He has now been actively involved in ministry for more than 35 years, and has served as pastor for churches throughout the state of Oklahoma for 20 years. His most recent pastorate, before coming to First Baptist Church of Buda, was at Silo Baptist Church in Durant, Oklahoma, where he pastored for 10 years. Although a Texan and very proud of it, he has a special love for the State of Oklahoma and his many friends and loved ones there. He has served as Sr. Pastor at First Baptist Church in Buda for the past 9 years and has enjoyed getting to be back home and reconnect with many friends and family from his past.

Bro. Buddy is married to Nancy Menking Johnson and they have three children, Sarah, Bethany and Trey, a wonderful daughter-in-law, Kelsey McDaniel Johnson (married to Trey), a beautiful grandbaby, Olivia Jane Johnson (daughter of Trey and Kelsey), and a soon to be son-in-law Matt Hite (future husband of Bethany). Nancy is a school teacher and has been in education for over 35 years. She takes an active part in the ministry of FBC Buda teaching Sunday School and directing the Worship Choir. The girls, Sarah and Bethany, both live in Buda, Texas and are actively involved in the ministry of FBC Buda. Trey recently came on board as Associate Pastor/Student Minister at FBC Buda after serving in a similar position at FBC Holland, Texas.

Bro. Buddy states, “It has been my greatest joy to get to serve alongside the wonderful people at First Baptist Church of Buda. I couldn’t have a greater church family and people who live out what it means to love and walk in Jesus every day. I love my church family at Buda and you will too. Come see us!”
